YouTube Transcript vs Captions vs Subtitles
Understand the difference between YouTube caption tracks, subtitles shown on the player, and the transcript view used for reading and navigation.
Captions, subtitles, and transcripts are related but not identical
They often contain the same underlying words, but they are presented for different purposes. A caption track is timed text associated with the video. Subtitles or captions are rendered over the player during playback. A transcript presents that timed text as a readable list or document, usually with timestamps.

Manual captions vs auto-generated captions
Manual captions are supplied or edited by a creator. Auto-generated captions are produced by YouTube speech recognition. Both can be exposed as caption tracks, but their accuracy and punctuation may differ.
A transcript extractor does not automatically improve the source wording. If the caption says the wrong name, the transcript will usually contain the same error.
